Matthew - Sax

Matthew is a very experienced saxophonist with a particular flair for musical improvisation. He began learning the flute at the age of six, on which he was classically trained. At the age of eighteen, after developing an interest in jazz music, he became a self-taught saxophonist, and played in a number of pop bands while studying at art college.

After graduating from art college Matthew decided to pursue music professionally and in 2003 joined The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, where he served for six years. During his time as a military musician he toured the world, performing in a whole range of ensembles from jazz bands to marching bands.

Having left the military in 2009 Matthew has held performing residencies in numerous places across North Wales, including the Imperial Hotel in Llandudno, and Chateau Rhianfa, Beaumaris. He also performs in various acts on the North Wales music scene, including ‘Sosban Jazz’ and ‘Cul De Sacs’.

Matthew is equally comfortable performing jazz or pop as a solo act at a drinks reception, as part of a lively wedding band, or simply improvising along to a DJ playing House music.
